TAKE BACK PLAY

Lessons From The Heart is a Reggio Emilia inspired preschool for children age three to five years old. We focus on honoring the individual needs of each child and allow him/her to express themselves through a variety of play opportunities. We strive to celebrate the unique skills and strengths of each child.
The Reggio Emilia approach to early education is the primary influence in the way the classroom environment looks. Reggio uses a plethora of natural materials and loose parts which encourage a child's use of imagination. While items are carefully chosen to call attention to activities or provocations, it is up to the child to manipulate the material and create as they choose.
Play is an important part of a young child's world. recent studies show that during free play there are changes in the connections between neurons in a child's brain. these prefrontal cortex connections are what wire the brain for self-regulation, emotional control, and problem solving. For this reason and many others, ample time for free play, both inside and out, is provided.
Assessment will be in the form of a portfolio and will consist of four domains of child development: cognitive, physical, language, and social/emotional. Documentation of your child's work will be collected in the form of photos, art, written work, stories, or anything relevant to your child's growth and development. Objective notes may be taken while your child is engaged in an activity. We will use the Indiana State Early Learning Foundations to guide assessment.
